After a thrilling contest at The Gnoll just now, Neath scraped through to Round 4 of this year’s Welsh Cup competition!
Batting first, our 1st XI were rescued by Gavin Williams (58no, 4 fours) and ‘keeper Lloyd Jones (28, 3 fours) to post 174-8 at tea. Coming together when the board read 83-6, these two gutsy performers added 75 runs to restore some respectability to matters. There followed such an exciting session which had everything to keep all present and at home on the edge of their sun beds! Mini partnerships, wickets falling at crucial times to each of the six bowlers used etc etc left the home side tottering on 141-8 with 44 runs still required from 9 overs.
Time wasn’t the issue for Neath then, being down to the tail was!
It was not to be for Ryan’s Lads though, as the home club snuck through to win by 2 wickets in the penultimate over!
