After sterling work on the ground when the rain eventually abated today (2nd), the Club’s home Welsh Cup tie v Ammanford got underway at 3.30pm.
A strong Ammanford XI chose to bat first and struggled more or less throughout their innings against a bowling attack determined to right yesterday’s wrongs. All of Ryan Aingworth’s bowlers deserved credit, with the captain (2-25), Roland Runout and off-spinner Max Phillips (1-22, the crucial wicket of Mathew Fisher (39, 3 fours & 2 sixes) just as he was getting going) taking the first wickets to fall..105-4.
The hero of the day, however, was 15 year old Adam Lewis-Williams, bro of wicketless Dan, who basically wiped away the middle order and tail! During his six overs, ALW helped himself to 4-15, including two bowled. From their allotted 35 overs, our visitors had mustered a teatime total of 135-9…surely below par and “gettable”?
Well, yep, it was and IT WAS!
After early nerves (22-2), James Palmer (36, 6 fours & a six), Max (28, 5 fours) and Dan (61no, 4 fours & 5 sixes!) ensured there were no further scares, thrilling the home crowd in the process!
Ryan Aingworth’s team duly reached their target with 11 overs to spare…136-4!
Round 3 will be played on Sunday 23rd June with the draw to take place once all games in Round 2 have been completed.
