FINE WIN FOR 1st XI!

Ryan Aingworth’s 1st XI eventually coasted to an emphatic 87 run victory at Gorseinon this afternoon (22nd)..a true all-round team performance!

Quite straightforward, really…not!

Winning the toss, Ryan decided that his guys should bat first…19-2 early doors!

Max Phillips (20, 3 fours) & Harri Turner took it to 57 before Max departed the scene. 16 year old Sean Davies joined Harri to take the total to 90 before the latter batter (30, 2 fours) decided to let others have a go. In strode all-rounder Aneurin “Noddy” Norman.

Not for the first time, the world’s finest No.6 after Ben Stokes took charge. First, he added a useful 38 with young Sean, who struck a very mature 14 runs. Then, Noddy and Rahul Shah (16, 1 four) added a rapid 62 runs to move things along to 190-6. Noddy was finally out in the final/40th over for 64 from just 49 balls faced, including 1 four & 4 sixes! Great entertainment on a day where it seemed unlikely that there’d be any cricket at all! Final total..a very competitive 192-7.

After the tea break, Kieran Howells, one of the Premier League’s finest players, made his intentions clear as he belted a six in the first over of the home club’s reply! Left arm spinner Jack Straw and ‘keeper Chris Matthews were not impressed, however, as they combined to see the dangerous Howells off in the next over!  Jack took 1-10 in his 8 overs, carrying on his consistently good form of this truncated season. 9-1 immediately became 9-2 after 16 year old seamer Adam Lewis-Williams took his wicket (1-21 off 5), before the highest partnership of the innings took place..41.

The 3rd wicket, and all subsequent wickets, fell to MCC’s other spinners..Max (3-40), Rahul (3-24) and Harri (2-8) combined to wrap things up in the 30th over..”Gors” 105 all out. Well done to Ryan and each of his team-mates!
