Phil Roche duly led his “A-Team” to their sixth win from eight games played since early last month as they wrapped up their truncated season in style at Marespool yesterday (13th)!
Fresh from their winning of the SWCA Intermediate Cup the week before, MCC fielded first on a fine September day. Playing 32 overs a side, Ynystawe totalled 125-5. This below par total was down to yet another good across-the-board performance by Rochey’s fielders & bowlers, with Rhys Davies (1-15), Paul Kenealy (1-16), Jack Rymer (1-21) and Phil himself (1-6) sharing the wickets that fell to bowlers. This team effort was all the more creditable after our visitors were handily placed early on, having notched 37 before the first wicket fell!
After the latest socially distanced “bring your own” tea, Sean Davies (12, 2 fours) & his captain (18, 3 fours) added 31 for the first wicket in reply. Following this solid start, wickets fell at regular intervals however, leaving MCC 69-5 at one stage..this game was not over!
However, Luke Edwards (24, 2 fours) & Rhys (18, 2 fours) top scored when it was most necessary, to add a crucial 34 runs for the sixth wicket. This partnership and more cool heads at the end saw the Club home, to win by 3 wickets in the 29th over..an excellent game played by two good teams!
Next weekend sees the close of Season 2020..an MCC XI take on Pontarddulais on Saturday (19th) whilst our very promising Under 17 cricketers play Gorseinon on Sunday (20th). Each game is being played at Marespool, starting at 12.30pm.
