Those present at Marespool last night had to wait until 9pm before hailing the winners of an exciting Under 15 Welsh Cup 1st Round tie!
And it was Joe Holland’s MCC side who edged through after narrowly defeating visitors Gorseinon by a mere 2 runs!
Electing to bat first, MCC posted a total of 118-4 in their allotted 20 overs. Will Howells top scored with an attractive knock of 46no, capably supported by Matthew Lewis (21) and Tomos Williams (12). Surely more than enough with the light failing as the evening wore on?
Well, it was..but only just!
In reply, opener Macsen Denman led the charge for Gorseinon with 45no but he lacked sufficient support to overhaul the home side’s total. Captain Joe involved eight bowlers on the night, with the wickets shared by himself (1-24), Tomos (2-20) & Theo Morris (1-14). Although wicketless, the economic efforts of all our bowlers should be applauded..especially perhaps Gethin Morgan & Tomos Chivers, who each conceded a paltry 13 runs from their respective 3 over spells!
With Gorseinon finishing two runs short on 116-4, MCC had made it through to the Quarter Final! Coach John Williams was understandably well pleased, if not a tad relieved (!), after the game..he hailed his team’s performance as “a good all round effort”.
The Club will travel to the winners of Carmarthen/Llanelli, who face off on Sunday 16th May.
