Acting Captain Joe Phillips was a proud man this afternoon (25th) as his ‘A’ XI saw off Bronwydd in the quarter final of the SWCA Intermediate T20 Cup at Marespool.
Our visitors won the toss and decided to field first. This choice appeared entirely vindicated after just 4 balls of MCC’s innings..1-1! Come the 6th over, Ben Jones (11, 1 four) and Joe (15, 2 fours) had also been dismissed..32-3. This brought Sean Davies in to join Jon Brearley, who was 4no.
Ok, let’s cut to the chase here! 14 overs later, these two guys walked off undefeated, having added 122 glorious runs between them! Sean notched 44no (5 fours) from just 35 balls faced while Jon had smashed 72no (9 fours & a maximum) off 53 balls..terrific entertainment for those on the sidelines! MCC closed on 154-3 from their 20 overs!
In reply, Bronywydd were given nothing from the off. Sam Harris, although wicketless, conceded just 6 runs from his four opening overs, whilst Mike Jarrett took 2-23 from his four..34-2 in the eighth over. There was no way back for Bronwydd as Luke Edwards (1-17), Ben Jones (2-14) and Jaden Patel (1-7) joined the party. Bronwydd finished on 100-6 from 20..MCC home ‘n dry by 54 runs!
