Our Under 13 XI won their Welsh Cup Zonal Q/F match away at Dafen this morning (4th) – a traditional strong breeding ground of future club cricketers, and beyond!
Batting first, the home club totalled 124-5 from their 20 overs. Whilst two Dafen lads had to retire out when they reached 30 (competition rules), Dan Board’s 9 bowlers all did a sterling job in the sun to restrict Dafen’s scoring. Rob Runout (1), Rhys Chivers and Ed Harris (both 1-14) were the wicket takers
In reply, MCC were going well, with openers DB (33, 5 fours) & Ed (30, 2 fours) plus No. 3 batter Thomas Ludman (30, 4 fours) each having to retire – 101-3 from 12 overs. 8 overs remaining, 24 runs required, 7 wickets in hand. Lovely day for it!
Oh no..there was evidence of sun stroke or something amongst the visitors, as Dafen bit back!! Our boys slipped to 114-8 with 3 overs left!! Was the host club now favourites to win through?
Nope..Sam Rees (8no, 1 vital four) and Marley Francis (1no) were the coolest guys out there, as they dealt with the 16 balls faced between them to cross the line with 4 deliveries to spare!
Coach Jamie Gwilliam now takes his squad to Aberystwyth this Friday (9th) for the Zone S/F, start 6pm.
