SECONDS STROLLING!

All the action, some welcome/some not so, was on show at Marespool yesterday (29th) as Stuart Seaton’s 2nd XI strolled to a 50 run victory over Ynysygerwn.

Batting first, MCC were bowled out for 207 in the 45th & final over. Openers Tim Hemp (45, 5 fours) and Joe Phillips (20, 3 fours) added 41 before Joe was dismissed. Elliott Oates (28, 4 fours) added 59 with Hempy before he was out: 100-2.

The main guys thereafter were Macsen Denman (26), Eoghan McKeegan (19no) & Wally Wides (29).

After tea, our visitors offered little resistance, apart from Ethan Vaughan, who smacked 47 coming in at 9. Lewis Francis was the outstanding bowler for Stuart’s Side, taking 6-28 (5 clean bowled!), with Elliott (2-14), Macsen (1-28) & Eurig Morgan (1-15) sharing the rest. Great work, team!

At Murton, our ‘A’ XI came second in a closely fought encounter against Llandeilo who returned to mid-Wales winners by 2 wickets in the final over!

Choosing to have first knock, Kapilan Radhakrishnan’s XI totalled 214-5 in their 40 overs. 14-year-old Tom Ludman scored 56 (6 fours) whilst more seasoned men James Harris (61no, 2 fours) and Jon Brearley (36, 3 fours & a six) also contributed well. However, mention should also be made of 15-year-old Sam Martin (15, 3 fours) & 14-year-old Dan Board (16no, 3 fours) who, in supporting James, added a most valuable 82 runs. These three took the total from 132-4 to the final figure of 214-5!

In reply, our guests, despite the efforts of Kaps’ bowlers, played sensibly to get home in an exciting finish! The wickets to fall were shared between our captain (1-42), Tom Chivers (2-53), Tom Phillips (1-20), Tony Dowrick (1-27), Dan (1-33) and Sam (1-19).

During the week gone, Tom, Dan, Eoghan and Macs Holland were each on Wales duty at Millfield, so many congrats to these lads!

AND..Eoghan took a hat-trick!

At Cowbridge, our 1st XI were also defeated.

Taking first strike, Captain Aneurin Norman (28, 4 fours &, unusually, zero maximums!) and Luke Smith opened up, adding 60 before Aneurin was dismissed in the 14th over..a reasonable start.

Sadly, the momentum could not be maintained as wickets fell regularly from then on. Having said that, fair play to Sean Davies (18, 3 fours) who added 53 with Luke for the 6th wicket : 123-5 became 176-6 in 8 overs. 176-6 became 205 all out with 6 overs remaining.

Oh..what became of Luke, I hear you ask? Well, he had excelled in scoring 80 (8 fours + 2 sixes)! A fine effort, under pressure!

After the interval, partnerships of 21, 57, 45, 42 & 36 were enough to see our hosts ease home to win by 4 wickets with 13 overs remaining.

Next Saturday, the 1st XI work their way around closed roads to Port Talbot, our 2nd XI take on Pontarddulais at Marespool, accompanied by the Red Arrows at around 5pm, and the ‘A’ XI venture over to Llantwit.
