There are sadly no words that can adequately sum up the sorrow being felt today, whether throughout our great Club, the local cricketing community or indeed in many parts of the UK and the globe.
Chairman Mark “Pompey” Portsmouth BEM has, to use cricketing parlance, “walked” – he passed away at Morriston Hospital this afternoon.
Despite his serious health issues in recent years, it took a fall in town to rob all of us of Mark’s company and friendship. He was on his way to find a new suit ahead of his receiving a richly deserved British Empire Medal from His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant at the Club this Saturday.
For now, we bid farewell to one of the truly great guys we have been so blessed to have known, in whatever capacity and for however long.
We can each come up with a plethora of apt adjectives to describe what Mark meant to us – surely, over and above such words comes “irreplaceable”.
In sharing the grief at Mark’s leaving the crease for the final time, we extend heartfelt sympathies to sister Kate and her family.
Thanks for everything, Pompey, absolutely everything that you brought to our respective tables..RIP👍
