The club joins the wider cricketing community in mourning the passing of Jim Pressdee, who died at his home in South Africa on Wednesday.
Born in Mumbles in 1933, Jim attended Oystermouth School. He played for the club prior to making his Glamorgan debut aged 16 years v Nottinghamshire in 1949.
Jim was an aggressive right hand bat, a left arm spinner, and outstanding close to the wicket fielder. During his career with the county which ended in 1965, Jim scored 13,411 runs and took 405 wickets, and held over 350 catches. He was the first Glamorgan player to score a century against Australia, and also achieved the ‘double’ of a 1,000 runs and 100 wickets in a first class season. On emigrating to South Africa, Jim also played for North East Transvaal, and was nominated South African Cricketer of the Year in 1966.
On returning to Mumbles in the 1980’s Jim played for the club in the South Wales Cricket Association. He also coached our Under 16’s side which won the South Wales Junior Cricket League Championship in 1985.
Everyone at Mumbles Cricket Club extends their deepest sympathies to Jim’s family and friends.
