The ‘A’ XI completed a Club Cup Final Double today (7th) as they cruised into the SWCA T20 Shield Final!
They defeated Briton Ferry Town by four wickets at Marespool this afternoon to set up a mouth watering clash against Felinfoel, who easily disposed of Ammanford in the other semi-final.
Batting first, the visitors were restricted to 125-3 from their 20 overs. All Alex Protheroe’s bowlers played their part, giving precious little away. Alex himself led the way, however, with 2-16 off his 4 overs. In reply, Harri Turner (17, 2 fours) & Tony Dowrick (25, 5 fours) laid a solid platform scoring 52 before the first wicket fell. Then, omg, 59-4!! Jac Greenwood (17, 3 fours) and Matthew Gully steadied the nerves somewhat, adding 26 between them..85-5. Still work to be done, though!
Captain Al struck 10 important runs but, at 108-6, this game was not over by any means..and the side were now dependant on two very promising Junior cricketers, more noted for their bowling skills, to win the day! And win the day they did..with five balls to spare! Matthew Gully (10 no, 1 four) and Adam Frangakis-Williams (11no, 1 four) thoroughly deserved all the plaudits at the end! MCC 126-6 and through to The Final! A truly fantastic result from yet another fine game of cricket!
This Cup Final will be played at Pontarddulais CC next Sunday (14th), start 12 noon.
