The Club’s first season in the SWALEC Premier League came to a close on Saturday (27th), with the 1st XI & 2nd XI finishing 6th & 3rd respectively – a magnificent effort by all those involved! Captains Morgan Hodges & Paul Kenealy, along with coach Darren Thomas & all the players, have done a great job this year. Morgan’s Men recovered well at St Helen’s to earn a draw v Swansea. Our hosts batted well up front, posting 258 -5. MCC bowled only one maiden over, with 17 year old Dan (2-53) & Browny (2-62) leading the efforts. After tea, MCC slumped to 23-4 in quick time before Darren (45), Dan (35) & Alex, another 17 year old, (33no) came to the rescue. The XI ended on 155-6, thus denying Swansea premier league cricket next season.
At Marespool, PK’s People lost to Swansea. Before tea, out visitors were bowled out for 208, with Andy (4-35) & 14 year old debutant Matt Shepherd (4-30) doing most of the hard work. However, their gallant efforts counted for nothing as MCC were skittled for 154 in the 39th over. Only Captain Kenealy (51no) came away with any credit, as no other batsman reached 20.
A disappointing final Saturday then, but a fine season overall. Others to salute for their much valued contributions include JB, John Courtney, Geoff & Nick for the fantastic wickets & outfield, Dai White for umpiring our 2nd XI games, Steve Davies for umpiring our ‘A’ XI games, scorers John Purnell, Dave Norman & Peter & Gill Sheldon, matchday sponsors’ hosts Pete Blyth & Ken Nelson, caterer Jen Rees, assistants Nicki Harries, Sue Nelson & Lynne Protheroe, & all those who regularly turned out to support our three senior teams. MANY thanks to you all!
