Congratulations to Mumbles Cricket Chairman Mark ‘Pompey’ Portsmouth who has been chosen by his employer Lloyds TSB to be their torchbearer when the Olympic flame is carried through Swansea in May next year.
Pompey was selected in recognition of his decades of hard work for local sport as a player, official and volunteer with both MCC and Langland Bay Golf Club.
Also this week, Mark became one of the very few from the village who have been accorded “The Honour of Mumbles” by the Mumbles Community Council. Our Chairman was the guest of the Council at a special presentation evening at the Conservative Club where Cllr Linda Tyler-Lloyd, Chairman of the Council, presented Mark with his thoroughly deserved award in recognition of his services to the community.
Everyone should look out now, as this “Freedom of Mumbles” allows our very own torchbearer to drive his sheep and goats up Newton Road!
